History

Chatham Rescue Squad was originally organized by the members of the Chatham Fire Department later expanding to include men from other fire companies in the area. ┬áIn 1968, Chatham Rescue Squad, Inc. was incorporated as a stand-alone 501c3 organization. In the 70’s as the need for an emergency ambulance was being called upon more, the first female and non-fire person was voted into membership, Barbara Peduzzi, who continues to volunteer her time today.

In the early 80’s members saw the need to find a space outside the fire department building and purchased the building at 11 Moore Avenue.

By the early 2000’s treatment of patients in a pre-hospital environment had advanced so much as had call volume, that Paramedics were placed on staff soon followed by the hiring of EMT Basics.

Today Chatham Rescue Squad, Inc. covers 220 square miles, with two stations.
